Subject: [gentooppc-user] MAKEDEV script failing?

Hardware:
2x500MHz PowerMac
256 MB RAM
ATI Rage 128 Pro, 16MB - the one with Apple's pseudo-DVI connector.

Using the gentoo-ppc-1.2-r1.iso I found the following problems:
1. I had to use the 'boot-safe' option, otherwise I got a blank screen
where I was expecting the penguin-graphic/boot messages. Is this a
known issue with certain hardware configurations?

2. When running the bootstrap.sh script, when the /dev entries are
made using the MAKEDEV script, I get a message along the lines of:
"Could not rename device hda10- to hda10: Permission denied" for every
device in /dev. I'm reciting the error message from memory so the
exact wording may be wrong... Is this normal( i.e. can I safely ignore
this )? Does this have to do with the fact that I'm in 'safe' mode(
i.e. devfs issues causing this )?

Thanks,
