Hi,

did you have any gentoo maintained ppc-sources installed.
A simple
   root@muffin veitw # emerge -p virtual/linux-sources

   These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

   Calculating dependencies ...done!
   [ebuild  N   ] media-gfx/transfig-3.2.3d-r1
   [ebuild    U ] sys-kernel/ppc-sources-2.4.20-r3 [2.4.21-r1]

The ppc-sources-2.4.20-r3 pkg for ppc-stable provides
"virtual/linux-sources" .
