9 I'm sure r3 is enough. When you say "emerge -u package", you're saying,
10 "Upgrade this package *and* anything it depends on that has a newer
11 version available." This will upgrade all dependencies, if they have
12 upgrades in portage, even if they don't *need* to be upgraded. The
13 normal "emerge package" will upgrade if it has a newer version, and
14 dependencies will only be upgraded if the package *requires* a higher
15 version of one of them.
