ok, so you have X configured, it just doesn't know to run Gnome or Flux or
something.  that can be added to your ~/.xinitrc  add a line to your ~/.xinitrc
like:

exec gnome-session
or 
exec fluxbox

and try running X again.

option-alt-f6 to get to a virtual term, then kill xfree
