I was able to emerge -u gnome a few days ago. It did get |

stuck at libdvdnav. It would run configure and configure |

would quit complaining that it needed automake 1.7 |

unfortunatley when this happened configure would be run |

again. It did this all night long and I only noticed when |
| 6 |
I got up in the morning to try my new GNOME only to find |
| 7 |
it was stuck on in an endless cycle with libdvd. I killed |
| 8 |
emerge and than I emerge -u libdvd and ran emerge -u gnome |
| 9 |
again. Now it works fine. I didn't try evolution 1.3 |
| 10 |
though as 1.2 works fine. |

I myself am curious about what constitutes a dependency |

earlier I emerge -u gedit and went off to run some errands |
| 14 |
and when I came back it hadn't finished because xfree |
| 15 |
4.3.0 r4 was being updated. xfree 4.3.0 r4 failed because |

it was downloading patch 1.1.2 which is listed in the |
| 17 |
digest file but the ebuild specs patch 1.1.3 . I |
| 18 |
downloaded the 1.1.3 patch into /usr/portage/distfiles and |
| 19 |
tried again and that worked. Then xfree-drm didn't work, |
| 20 |
but did after I got the latest kernel patch level. |

Needless to say that when I built a new kernel I got the |
| 22 |
same horizontal scan lines that made me give up on Yellow |
| 23 |
Dog 2.3 . Does the newest version of gedit really require |
| 24 |
xfree 4.3.0 r4 or would r3 be enough? |
