Subject: [gentooppc-user] Excessive disk use?

Hi,

I'm beginning to run out of space on my 2 GB root partition for gentoo. I've
already learned about "/var/tmp/portage" and "/usr/portage/distfiles" and
have cleaned them out.

What I don't understand is that my gentoo installation seems to take up more
disk space than the old precompiled SuSE PPC distribution I had on this
machine before. My gentoo installation lacks "gnome" and has a lot less stuff
installed, so I would expect it to be smaller, not larger.

So I have a few questions: 1) Have I missed cleaning out any important
directories? 2) Is there any special flags I must put in "/etc/make.conf" to
avoid code bloat (I have a PPC 603ev). Right now I've noticed that all the
CFLAG lines were commented out in that file, apparently I have been compiling
with the defaults -- is this the problem? What's the best way to fix this
(short of redoing the entire gentoo installation).

Thanks,
