Neither do I, but after re-merging several system components that checked |
7 |
out as having bad md5s, make mrproper -> menuconfig with the PPC defaults |
8 |
got me back into that area. I did less fiddling this time and I am able |
9 |
to boot the system. However, after the kernel init screen (where it |
10 |
tells about framebuffer addresses and such) nothing else displays. It |
11 |
*is* functional; I just can't see what I'm doing. I'm sure it's some |
12 |
video option I need to pass to the kernel. |
13 |
After some blind typing, I managed to get SSH up and running, so I can |
14 |
connect from my main PC. That and networking are added to default |
15 |
runlevel. Maintenance should be easier now. :-p |
16 |
|

As for the CUDA tibdit, I do see mention of that in dmesg. However, I |
18 |
sure wouldn't have known to enable it, so it's a good thing that's a |
19 |
default. :) |

Thanks; already went there before installation to check it out... the |
24 |
latest version on this site (last updated September 2001!) is 1.2.2, yet |
25 |
the one on the Gentoo CD calls itself 1.2.3 -- has Gentoo taken over |
26 |
custody of BootX? ;) |

Ok, I was having a "user error" -- if you punch Options and don't change |
35 |
anything, you don't get any extra controls afterward. :-p It was |
36 |
already un-checked, so I wasn't seeing anything new after hitting "Ok". |

Now, that's an idea... I'll have to look into that! |

Me, too! At work, the Macs run 8 or 9, I'm not sure (since I don't use |
53 |
them much any more, and there's only one left anyway). |

Yes, it did! I found a suspicious-looking control panel called |
58 |
"AutoRemounter" and moved it elsewhere, along with the AppleTalk control |
59 |
panel. Now I can boot into MacOs without that silly connect box popping |
60 |
up. (If I go to the Chooser, however, as the only thing there is |
61 |
AppleShare, it comes back. I'll tackle that later.) |
62 |
|
63 |
For now, I'm trying to get some usable local video, and build a tighter |
64 |
kernel without useless extra stuff. Oh, and I should probably do my |
65 |
taxes sometime this weekend. ;) |
66 |
|
67 |
Thanks for your help! |
