Probably the files got mangled during download. Did you use Netscape to
get them? I've heard (but can't confirm) that Netscape and some other
browsers automatically expand HQX files when downloading (which would not
be helpful on a non-Mac system). I'd expect the file to be renamed when
that happens, but I'm not sure. What does the "file" command say about
those files?
BTW, I just grabbed that same file using Konqueror, and here's what I
got:
rassilon@panopticon stuffit $ file aladdin_exp55.hqx
aladdin_exp55.hqx: BinHex binary text, version 4.0
rassilon@panopticon stuffit $ hformat /dev/fd0
Volume name is "Untitled"
Volume was created on Sat May 24 13:08:32 2003
Volume was last modified on Sat May 24 13:08:32 2003
Volume has 1448960 bytes free
rassilon@panopticon stuffit $ hcopy -b aladdin_exp55.hqx Untitled:
rassilon@panopticon stuffit $
You could try using Konqueror, or dillo (tiny browser), lynx... or even
wget http://www.aladdinsys.com/downloads/files/aladdin_exp55.hqx ;)
