I'm experiencing this as well. I've also tried the 2.6.4 kernel. I have a ATI
Radeon 9000 and a G4 Quicksilver. I didn't have this problem when I installed
off the 2004.0 (my emerges failed to build anything after a recent update so I
attempted a clean install).
