Eric,

There's nothing wrong with questions. Most of your questions *have* been 
answered in the documentation on gentoo.org. Linux users have a bad rep 
for just telling people to RTFM, but in this case, the docs are quite 
clear. A little legwork and you don't have to reinvent the wheel, or 
teach everybody by your questions, because the gentoo devs have outlined 
the process damn near step-by-step.

For example about the stages:

"A stage is a unix tarball that contains a minimal linux system that 
needs to be unpacked on an empty partition on the hard disk you wish to 
install Gentoo on."

and the kernel/adb-keycodes:

"Warning: For your kernel to function properly, there are several 
options that you will need to ensure are in the kernel proper -- that 
is, they should be enabled and not compiled as modules.

<snip>

  Also under Macintosh Device Drivers make sure to disable the default 
of Support for ADB raw keycodes." (ENTIRE PARAGRAPH HIGHLIGHTED IN RED)

And at least a page on setting up initial networking.....

You have managed to bork the last couple of CDs so badly that the ranks 
of #gentoo-ppc have swelled.

No make.conf - you said it was a known portage problem....and yet the CD 
made it to the mirrors....

GCC not configged - let's leave a default config off of the stage1 so 
people can't bootstrap until they fix the error....

Numerous problems with booting the LiveCD and cloop in general...
(which I happily missed out on)

I would hazard to say that the general quality of -ppc has declined 
precipitously of late. You don't get a feather in your cap for being the 
lead dev if you're turning out crap. In OSS the thing that set's your 
product apart is its quality, or the quality of the support behind it, 
and I've seen neither in the -ppc camp recently.

I don't know if it's official or not, but it seems to be what you were 
asking for. You might see the above comment directed to Eric, or check 
out #gentoo-ppc on irc.freenode.net. The devs have made an effort in the 
past to be available to the users, as well as providing copious 
documentation to help people in the transition to the gentoo way of 
doing things.
