Subject: Participation in Gentoo communication channels

Hello.

As a userrel member and given the recent abuses in Gentoo communication
channels (in particular the mailing lists), I want to recall everyone
that participation in the Gentoo Community is a privilege and not a
right. Also, no amount of contribution to the community nor the fact
that one may be factually accurate serves as an excuse to behave
inappropriately and or for abrasive behaviour.
Whenever you use our communication channels make an effort and be on
your best behaviour. Please try to be concise, clear and debate ideas,
not people - other members of the community will appreciate that. Don't
forget that the Gentoo Council has approved a Code of Conduct[1] that
applies to all communication mediums.
There have been a few recent requests, or more appropriately some recent
moaning, in the mailing lists about the behaviour of certain members of
the community. Some people are requesting that certain members of the
community are silenced and or prevented from "derailing discussions".
The correct procedure in case of such abuse is to contact the User
Relations or Developer Relations teams and not to abuse the mailing
lists about this.
As some members of the community keep having an abusive and abrasive
behaviour and given that we're all getting tired of it, I urge you to
consider your participation in the community carefully as any abuse will
be dealt with *swiftly*. Furthermore, given the cross-attacks that keep
showing up and the demands for action from the community, the User
Relations team in particular and Gentoo as a whole, might not have any
other choice than to push for policy changes and harsher solutions that
are likely not to please people.
