GenKernel in CVS |
2 |
gentoo/src/genkernel_bradmssw |
3 |
is in a usable state. It should work for about any arch |
4 |
right now, though it needs the arch-specific configs |
5 |
still. The only arch it has been extensively tested on |
6 |
is 'amd64', though I have successfully compiled kernels |
7 |
for x86, but not booted them. Weeve also has an in-development |
8 |
config for Sparc32 and Sparc64, we need PPC guys to start testing it. |
9 |
|
10 |
Also, drobbins and myself are working on a new linuxrc for the |
11 |
initrd in CVS |
12 |
gentoo/src/initrd_linuxrc |
13 |
which is much improved over the old linuxrc scripts as it |
14 |
combines functionality for livecds, and normal booting, |
15 |
so there isn't a specific script for each, which makes |
16 |
genkernel easier to maintain and use. Still needs testing |
17 |
on loading modules automatically, and genkernel needs to be |
18 |
adapted to create the proper dependancy lists for copying |
19 |
modules to the initrd. |
20 |
|
21 |
Also I have an internal genkernel version that utilizes less |
22 |
space by making use of devfs and devfsd internally for dev nodes |
23 |
which reduces overhead by about 650k in the filesystem for the |
24 |
inodes it would have to create on a MAKEDEV generic-i386. I should |
25 |
be able to commit this over the weekend. |
26 |
|
27 |
Oh yeah, it should work for 2.4 and 2.6 kernels, but has really |
28 |
only been tested on 2.4. |
29 |
|
30 |
Let me know if I can be of any help on the integration. |
