Dear Gentoo Science Devs, |
2 |
|
3 |
By the way of submitting a new ebuild for the IT++ library |
4 |
(http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=120163 ), I raised the issue of |
5 |
CBLAS (C interface to BLAS) support in Gentoo. |
6 |
|
7 |
The IT++ library, which I develop by the way, depends on a set of external |
8 |
libraries, i.e. BLAS, LAPACK and CBLAS. |
9 |
By the time of preparing the ebuild for this library I was wondering if |
10 |
there is a possibility to add "virtual/cblas" to Gentoo, similarly to |
11 |
"virtual/blas" and "virtual/lapack". |
12 |
|
13 |
The reason for this new virtual is that CBLAS interface to BLAS is not |
14 |
always provided by a particular BLAS implementation. |
15 |
|
16 |
I found working CBLAS interface in the following packages in Gentoo: |
17 |
- blas-atlas (libcblas.* set by eselect) |
18 |
- gsl (libgslcblas.*) |
19 |
- mkl |
20 |
But unfortunately it is not provided by: |
21 |
- blas-reference |
22 |
- acml |
23 |
|
24 |
Besides, I prepared a new ebuild with NetLib's CBLAS |
25 |
(http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=122958 ), which will extend the |
26 |
former list. |
27 |
|
28 |
I think that it would be perfect if "virtual/cblas" could be added for |
29 |
these packages that provides CBLAS interface. |
30 |
|
31 |
What is your opinion? |
32 |
|
33 |
Best regards, |
34 |
|
35 |
/Adam Piątyszek |

38 |
PS. I discussed this issue with Markus Dittrich (markusle), who suggested |
39 |
to post the email to the gentoo-science mailing list. |
