Last time I tried to convert gentoo-x86 to mercurial it ran for 30 days on a high powered ppc64 system. If you want to see how well mercurial compares I highly suggest getting a treesnap of gentoo-x86 and doing the conversion. I tried in 2006 and I hope the conversion tools have improved. That being said I'm pretty sure most of us are set on git here and it would take some convincing to try something else. -Alec
