7 I would check out AIDE (also in portage) as a replacement for Tripwire. It is completely open source (not just for linux) and allows use of a lot of different cryptographic checksums.

9 And also.. Wy doesn't more people run COPS? It's old and easy to fool if you know it's there, I know, but the basic stuff it checks for is still a concern! I trapped more attackers with COPS than with any other security software.
