[gentoo-server] exim and mailman - doesnt work

hi,

i recently installed mailman on a server. there is an exim mta running
on this server which seems to have a problem with mailman 2.1.

situation is that exim receives mail for a list and the mail goes into
mailmans queue.
if i now accept that message, the mail doesnt get delivered.

mail _is_ received according to exim_main.log and appears in the mailman
moderation queue

mailman log says that there is a low-level smtp error in dns resolution.
what seems to be a nonsense message, as usual mail gets delivered
without any problems.

for exim configuration i followed the official mailman-2.1 config guide
on exim.org (http://www.exim.org/howto/mailman21.html).

i already checked the mailman uid/gid settings in exim.conf but now i am
running out of ideas at this point.

any ideas? hints? working configurations?
