Hello,

Has anyone here experimented with mesh networking setups for linux systems? I
have been spending the past two months trying to become familiar with the
MeshAP system (http://www.locustworld.com http://www.communitywireless.org
http://www.ultramesh.com) but I have lately become somewhat frustrated with
the delay in adding network card drivers to their mini distribution.

The same concepts that are applied in meshAP (AODV(automatic node discovery),
captive portal integration, automatic bandwidth regulation, opportunistic
encryption) could I believe recreated on a Gentoo system.

One other system mentioned to me by the people in #wireless (on
irc.freenode.net) was the S.O.W.N. project
(http://www.sown.org.uk/index.php/SownMeshing?PHPSESSID=c31e66acb2daf18334acc6be04fc6d52)

The S.O.W.N. strategy seems more of the fixed network type, but I could be
wrong in that analysis. it does however seem more straightforward to
implement than the meshAP system. Also, I am not sure if the meshAP system
is GPL'ed or not.

I have been bitten hard by the wireless networking bug, so I plan on
continuing to work on this stuff, if anyone is interested in talking about it
let me know.
