Hi guys! |
2 |
|
3 |
My name is Georgi and I am a Computer Science student at The University |
4 |
of Manchester. I have been using Gentoo for over 5 year now and I'd love |
5 |
to give back something to the community. I would like to apply for this |
6 |
year's GSoC and I've chosen to work on the Portage statistics idea. |
7 |
|
8 |
Here's a brief description of my project, aptly named "portagestats": |
9 |
|
10 |
> This project aims to implement support in Portage (either directly |
11 |
> or through hooks) to selectively report Portage actions and various |
12 |
> system information, such as installations/removals, compilation |
13 |
> durations/problems, USE flag choices, CFLAGS, kernel configuration, |
14 |
> and so forth. This information can be useful to both developers and |
15 |
> users and can possibly improve the QA process. |
16 |
> |
17 |
> In order to encourage participation the project will provide users |
18 |
> with free version control of their Portage configuration. Moreover, |
19 |
> users will also be given the choice to be contacted in regards to |
20 |
> specific packages in order to help developers, or to report |
21 |
> information completely anonymously. |
22 |
> |
23 |
> This project will be implemented in Python and will reuse code from |
24 |
> gentoostats and previous similar projects. |
25 |
|
26 |
I doubt that many of you would like to read my complete proposal due to |
27 |
its length, but if you are curious I can give you a link. If you have |
28 |
any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to get in touch with |
29 |
me, either here or on IRC (I am gg7 on Freenode). |

|
31 |
Regards, |
