Hello gentoo, |
2 |
|
3 |
|
4 |
I wanted to publicly express my interest in participated at GSOC 2020 |
5 |
with gentoo, specifically working on porting RElibc to gentoo[1]. I |
6 |
already exchanged couple of emails with Luca. |
7 |
|
8 |
Let me introduce myself, I am fresh graduate and will start my first |
9 |
masters semester next month. My background is in systems software, and |
10 |
I a mainly do C/C++, Rust and assembly (side by side with bunch of |
11 |
other scripting languages). |
12 |
|
13 |
And this is my second time doing google summer of code, First time was |
14 |
in 2016 with radareOrg working on implementing argument detection pass |
15 |
(part of reverse engineering process). |
16 |
|
17 |
As for my relationship with Gentoo, I am a Gentoo user, I have been |
18 |
using it for ~2 years now. I tried OS I could get my hands on (ubuntu, |
19 |
debians, fedora, slackware and arch, buildroot/LFS) and the reason I |
20 |
liked gentoo more, is that it is rolling release and stable and not |
21 |
single person driven, and comes with package manager (yeah build |
22 |
root/LFS doesn't). |
23 |
|
24 |
The reason is that I am so excited about this project is that I am |
25 |
also Rust advocate, I am even working on side project of porting my |
26 |
whole project I worked on in gsoc to rust (long term side project of |
27 |
myself). |
28 |
|
29 |
Anyways ,although I have been gentoo user for a while I don't have |
30 |
much experience with ebuilds (1 day experience), hence my starting |
31 |
early to at least have working experience with package maintenance. At |
32 |
the time being, I am trying to get to contact RElibc maintainers based |
33 |
on advice from Luca and working on learning how to create overlays by |
34 |
create (local then will be moved to github) overlay for relibc. |
35 |
|
36 |
Thanks. |
37 |
Ahmed. |
