I've committed gcc-3.4.5, gcc-sparc64-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.5-r3, |
6 |
linux-headers-2.6.11-r4 and some other bits to stable. |
7 |
This are in preparation for the 2006.0 release so it won't affect 2005.1 |
8 |
and earlier release/profile users unless you use package.unmask or |
9 |
switch to the new profiles. |
10 |
|
11 |
But before switching there are a couple of caveats: |
12 |
* Upgrading will require an "emerge -e world" to avoid issues. |
13 |
* Java is broken and masked, the joy of binary packages. We don't want |
14 |
to keep old glibc versions forever. |
15 |
* The 2006.0 profile isn't finished, it won't work just out of the box |
16 |
and may be modified pending release. |
17 |
* Use the 2006.0/2.4 profile for 2.4 headers/kernel, 2.6 isn't |
18 |
extensively tested and you may want the stable approach. |
19 |
|
20 |
That being said: |
21 |
* Using 2.6 stuff lets you use hal & alsa (though these require |
22 |
package.keywording). Use kernel builtin-ALSA rather than alsa-drivers, |
23 |
2.6.15 seems to work fine. |
24 |
* nptl seems to work fine too (2.6 kernel required). |
25 |
* You'll need to unmask a 2.6 kernel, if you don't know what i mean then |
26 |
stick to 2.4. |
27 |
|
28 |
For new installs just fetch the latest experimental stage from the |
29 |
mirrors, those are built with the new stuff. |
30 |
Of course there's stuff to fix yet, feedback is more than welcome. |
31 |
Enjoy. |
