provides an alternative service for most mailing lists.c.f. bug 424647
I don't have much time to explain this right this minute, but don't want to
hold this back from trustees being able to read and ponder it. This is the
agreement 2 FAQs that were given to Kurt and I by our legal counsel last
week, and we discussed this at length for a couple of hours. We need to
discuss if this is something we would like for our devs, and if so pitch it
to them later with the help (in terms of QA on a mailing list) with our
fyi, the agreement is a shortened, human-readable version of the actual
legaleze agreement. The agreement covers international issues in that in
case the jurisdiction does not recognize such a dual copyright, the signer
grants an irrevocable license to use the code, etc.
the faq is 2-part: one for the developer side and one for the trustee side.
Brian put a lot of work into this, and I think covers a lot of bases.
I'll send a note explaining more later (feel free to chime in, Kurt)..

Gentoo Contributor Agreement Explained
You grant Gentoo joint ownership of the copyright in your Contribution.
However, you are still free:
- to copy, distribute, display, and perform your Contribution
- to make derivative works of your Contribution
- to make commercial use of your Contribution
- to license your Contribution however you see fit
- to transfer or assign your interest in the Contribution
Under the following conditions:
Covered Works. The list of programs and documentation covered by the agreement is included in the agreement and may be supplemented on the Gentoo website.
Exclusions. Submissions that you wish to exclude from the agreement must be clearly labeled "Not a Contribution" and you must indicate which free software or Creative Commons license governs such submissions.
Representations. Contributors represent that they are the authors of their Contributions and that they are entitled to submit them to Gentoo, e.g., Contributor's employer does not claim ownership of the Contribution. Contributors also agree not to transfer or assign their interest in their Contributions to a third party without first providing that party with notice of 1) Gentoo's joint ownership in the Contribution, and 2) the full Gentoo Contributor Agreement.
Scope. The agreement only creates joint ownership in the copyright in the Contribution. Contributors do not receive joint ownership in the larger work to which they contribute.
Enforcement. Only Gentoo has the right to enforce the copyright in the Contribution, including the right to sue.
Patents. If the Contributor holds any patents that cover the Contribution then the Contributor grants a royalty-free patent license allowing the redistribution of the Contribution by all those who receive copies directly or indirectly through Gentoo.
Gentoo's Licensing. As a joint owner of the Contribution, Gentoo has all the rights of a copyright holder and intends to license Contributions of software under the GPL and Contributions of documentation under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike license.
This is a human-readable summary of the full Legal Code (the full agreement).
