Hi guys, |
2 |
|
3 |
For what its worth, I think we're being foolish pursuing all these |
4 |
questions of theoretical "other stores" and equality between them. |
5 |
Here are my reasons: |
6 |
|
7 |
First, the Gentoo Store is, and always will be, the store that |
8 |
benefits the Gentoo Foundation the most. Whether Daniel is running it |
9 |
or not, we'll likely always have a store attached to our web pages |
10 |
that sells only Gentoo gear. No other store is going to have the full |
11 |
gamut of Gentoo merchandise that the Store offers. Other stores will |
12 |
sell items in proportion with other distributions and thereby limit |
13 |
what they offer for Gentoo. I also doubt another store is going to |
14 |
offer a "Donate to Gentoo" item where the proceeds are directed |
15 |
straight to the Foundation. |
16 |
|
17 |
Second, we don't want to run the store personally. We struggle enough |
18 |
with being trustees. I've found over the past few months that it's |
19 |
easier to be a developer than to be a trustee. My impression is that |
20 |
I'm not the only one in this boat. I think we have our hands full |
21 |
without imagining that we can take on the added responsibility of the |
22 |
Store. Daniel does a good job running the Store, and I think we |
23 |
should be thankful that he is willing to do it. |
24 |
|
25 |
Third, I think we should dispense with the crap about promoting |
26 |
different stores equally. At this point in time, it's in our best |
27 |
interest *and* in Daniel's best interest to promote the Store by |
28 |
mentioning it in the GWN, on the front page, anywhere we can. Let's |
29 |
deal with the short-term now since it's in our face; it will make |
30 |
dealing with the long-term easier, not harder. |
31 |
|
32 |
Regards, |
33 |
