Ja olhou nos logs ?
Procurou no messages pra ver se tem algo relacionado ao dhcp ?
Habilitou o RC_VERBOSE no /etc/conf.d/rc ?
Ja verificou se a sua placa de rede esta como modulo ou builtin no kernel ?
Ja verificou se a sua placa de rede esta com o modulo carregado no boot ?

Tem N possibilidades para esse erro. Passe os logs para gente, que fica mais
facil ajudar :D
