Hi All, |
2 |
|
3 |
I have installed gentoo on my laptop recently and I am having a huge |
4 |
problem with speed. |
5 |
|
6 |
The problem is the insanely slow disk access that I am getting. |
7 |
|
8 |
here is some output: |
9 |
|
10 |
manticore ~ # hdparm -tT /dev/hda |
11 |
|
12 |
/dev/hda: |
13 |
Timing cached reads: 5702 MB in 2.00 seconds = 2857.11 MB/sec |
14 |
Timing buffered disk reads: 6 MB in 3.37 seconds = 1.78 MB/sec |
15 |
|
16 |
manticore ~ # /etc/init.d/hdparm start |
17 |
* Running hdparm on /dev/hda ... |
18 |
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted |
19 |
[ ok ] |
20 |
* Running hdparm on /dev/hdd ... |
21 |
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted |
22 |
[ ok ] |
23 |
|
24 |
|
25 |
I read on a forum somewhere that this could be caused by the HAL daemon |
26 |
so I shut that down and no luck :-( |
27 |
|
28 |
Any ideas? |
29 |
|
30 |
Thanks |
