We can't do this without significantly reducing the value that those spots
hold. If we make it simple for everyone to hide those ads, advertisers
aren't going to be willing to pay as much (through donated services) to
have their ads placed there. The ad bar needs to remain visible at all
times. (and yes, I realize things like Firefox's AdBlock extension can do
the same thing)
