13 Great, thanks! I've just attached the latest ebuilds to the bug.
14 Depending on your time and adventurousness, you could try the following:

16 - ebuild binutils-apple-6.1.ebuild install
17 - emerge binutils-apple (in existing, backupped (!) prefix)
18 - PORTDIR_OVERLAY=.../overlay-with-binutils EPREFIX=/tmp/testprefix bootstrap-prefix.sh

20 and see if any of that works and the resulting binutils emit working
