1 I disabled both the patches in the m4 ebuild (one was for BSD the other for Darwin) and ... I _WAS_ able to finally emerge m4 !!

5 AIX does not have any autotools that I know of. I have some older versions installed (compiled by hand) but they didn't seem to be the right versions. In any event, I'm past this problem, so that's good.

23 Matt's suggestion makes sense. If I look at the solaris bootstrap, m4
24 is bootstrapped before autoconf and friends. What exact error do you
25 get? Does AIX come without any autotools at all?
