I'm looking for a fink replacement and since I'm running Gentoo on all |

my Linux machines I really like the idea to have portage on the Mac as |

well. I've got the bootstrap running just now and it works incredibly |

I've got what might be considered a dumb beginner's question, but I can't |

seem to find an answer on my own: |

Is prefix-portage root-safe at the moment? That is to say: Can I use |

prefix-portage to install packages as root without screwing up my system |

and will the resulting tree with all it's suid bits and config files be |

safe to deploy in a multi-user environment? |

I'm guessing that, since it uses normal Gentoo ebuilds, the permissions |

will be fine. But does it, for example, use sandbox and refuse to |
| 18 |
install outside $EPREFIX to prevent trashing of Mac OS X system binaries |

by accident? |
