Assume you would like to be installing new versions of programs when |
12 |
they were released by their writers. In that case you would likely |
13 |
want to default to ~amd64, which is a compromise between that and |
14 |
'complete system stability'. |
15 |
|
16 |
If a new program turns out not to work for some reason, usually it is |
17 |
downgraded as soon as people start yelping. Until then, keep |
18 |
FEATURES="buildpkg" in your /etc/make.conf and reinstall the older |
19 |
version using something like 'emerge -K "=package-1.2.3.4-r37"' |
20 |
|
21 |
Also you can use /etc/portage/package.mask to disable versions |
22 |
temporarily or permanently, if they give you trouble (such as failure |
23 |
to be built). I do this pretty often, along with emerge -K. What often |
24 |
happens is a new revision comes out that works, and since the new |
25 |
revision isn't masked everything works fine. |
