Yes, -Os seems indeed to be a good flag to compile firefox with. I remember reading a pdf created by some redhat guys about various optimizations on mozilla and they came to the conclusion that -Os what pretty optimal. So the mozilla/firefox/thunderbird rpms in RHEL/fedora are built with -Os, and so are the official builds.
