I did think about that too, as I was using swap prefetch in |
7 |
ck-sources on my desktop. I did switch back to gentoo-sources on the |
8 |
desktop, and the issue persisted. |

My desktop has 1GB of ram and 1GB of swap. Nomrally, my swap usage is |
11 |
0/957M. When I observe the strange memory, I notice my swap is around |
12 |
280K/957M. |

My laptop has 2GB of ram and 2GB of swap, and I have noticed similar |
15 |
results, swap does get used, but is always around 300K. |

Now, I did notice something strange this morning. I booted my laptop up, |
19 |
and left it at the console screen while I was working on my desktop |
20 |
(drafting my previous response). After the laptop had been at the |
21 |
console screen for about 90 minutes, I logged in and strated X. Right |
22 |
away I saw memory usage at 375MB. The strange thing is, I downgraded to |
23 |
2.6.14-gentoo-r7 on Saturday, and did not see this behavior at all over |
24 |
the weekend.. I did notice when I was merging 2.6.14-r7 this weekend |
25 |
there were a lot of references to 2.6.15 patches, so I am not sure what |
26 |
is going on here. I do know that prior to some upgrade a couple of weeks |
27 |
ago, everything was "normal", and now it's not. |
28 |
|
29 |
Again, the memory creep only happens when the system is idle. I have |
30 |
been typing on my desktop for over 2 hours, and memory is only 133MB |
31 |
right now with most of my normal applications running. |
32 |
|
33 |
I will see if I can roll back to an earlier kernel in 2.6.14 (I believe |
34 |
I was using -r5 without issue) and see if that corrects the problem.... |
35 |
|
36 |
Thanks, |
37 |
