8 ..having read your informative posting, I just upgraded to baselayout-2 and have to say that "few hours" is a bit of an exaggeration. Just updating a few config files, and thats it. Especially if you have mostly "default-settings" (dhcp for network-interfaces, for example), the effort is minimal.
