Hi, |
2 |
On my AMD64 machine (and possibly my 32-bit machines also) I have a |
3 |
problem with handling of non-American characters. If I do an ls of a |
4 |
directory I don't see the character, but rather see something like |
5 |
this on the last entry: |
6 |
|
7 |
mark@lightning ~/music/John Scofield $ ls -l |
8 |
total 20 |
9 |
drwxrwxrwx 2 500 500 4096 Apr 4 11:37 EnRoute |
10 |
drwxrwxrwx 2 500 500 4096 Apr 4 11:37 Flat Out |
11 |
drwxrwxrwx 2 500 500 4096 Apr 4 11:37 Hand Jive |
12 |
drwxrwxrwx 2 500 500 4096 Apr 4 11:37 I Can See Your House From Here |
13 |
drwxrwxrwx 2 500 500 4096 Apr 4 11:37 ??berjam |
14 |
mark@lightning ~/music/John Scofield $ |
15 |
|
16 |
where the last entry should be a capital U with an umlaut over it. |
17 |
Whatever causes this also causes some programs I'm running to freak |
18 |
out. |
19 |
|
20 |
However, it's not a total loss as within Gnome's browser I do see the |
21 |
correct name: |
22 |
|
23 |
Überjam |
24 |
|
25 |
What is it waht effects this sort of thing and how do I make my |
26 |
system self consistent so that programs aren't crashing on me? |
27 |
|
28 |
Thanks, |
29 |
Mark |
