You might be interested in checking out sylpheed-claws instead of |

thunderbird for your GUI mail client. I'm probably going to switch over |

to it myself sooner or later - sooner if I can figure out a way to |

migrate mailboxes from thunderbird. But anyway, I checked just now, and |

sylpheed-claws does have an Ignore Thread / Unignore Thread option. |

Unfortunately at first glance its threading seems to be not quite as |

robust as thunderbird's, but that may be due to sylpheed-claws not |

having all the previous messages in the thread. |
