Greetings Gentooers! |
2 |
It has now been some time since the official Gnome 2.0.2 release, and |
3 |
we are now confident about the quality of "our" Gnome 2.0.2 release. |
4 |
Confident enough to release it to the public. |
5 |
|
6 |
This release has been tested on all our major platforms, x86, ppc and |
7 |
sparc64. |
8 |
|
9 |
The long awaited news in this release is the menu editing. simply open |
10 |
applications:// in nautilus (or select the start-here icon on the |
11 |
default desktop) and there you can edit the menu entries as any other |
12 |
part of your filesystem. |
13 |
|
14 |
The main Gnome 2.0 site is here : |
15 |
http://www.gnome.org/start/2.0/ |
16 |
|
17 |
And theese are the release notes: |

|
20 |
|
21 |
Notes for users: |
22 |
** To get letters like åäö in gnome-terminal: |
23 |
export KEYMAP="se-latin1" |
24 |
gnome-terminal |
25 |
|
26 |
or set it in your ~/.bashrc ~/.bash_profile or equivalent (depends on |
27 |
your shell) |
28 |
|
29 |
** If gnome-terminal doesn't launch properly: |
30 |
make sure you have a correct and valid shell in /etc/passwd for that |
31 |
user. the shell should be the whole path and shell name. ie "/bin/bash" |
32 |
and -not- "bash" |
33 |
|
34 |
|
35 |
|
36 |
and last, but far from least. to update to gnome 2.0.2 simply type: |
37 |
|
38 |
emerge rsync |
39 |
emerge -u gnome |
40 |
|
41 |
|
42 |
whereas from a system without gnome installed, it is simply: |
43 |
emerge rsync |
44 |
emerge gnome |
45 |
|
46 |
|
47 |
|
48 |
Good luck, and enjoy your new Gnome 2.0.2 Desktop! |
