Hi Team,
To make it easier/cleaner to create custom dist-kernel ebuilds in
overlays we would like to promote "generic-uki" to a global flag.
It is currently set by kernel-build.eclass and used in:
- sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel
- sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin
- sys-kernel/vanilla-kernel
That's only three packages, but since the flag is set by an eclass which
is used in overlays I feel this makes sense regardless. Making it a
global flag makes it possible to mask it globally instead of on a
per-package basis. This is convenient for overlays because appending
masks to a profile from an overlay is unfortunately not possible.
The proposed description is:
generic-uki - Install a generic initramfs and Unified Kernel Image
alongside the distribution kernel
Which is more or less the current description, with the addition that it
now explicitly mentions that this flag is intended for use in
dist-kernel ebuilds.

Best regards,
Nowa
