Hi list! |
2 |
|
3 |
To make sure all of you can have a nice weekend, I report the |
4 |
following problem. Please bear with me if I miss something obvious, |
5 |
as I think this problem should not occur at all. |
6 |
|
7 |
After having built a tarball for a 'build installation' and having burnt |
8 |
that thing to a CD, I grabbed root and rescue disk, booted them, |
9 |
created reiser file systems on my partitions and mounted them. Then |
10 |
I tried |
11 |
|
12 |
bzip2 -dc /mnt/cdrom/nameofmytarball.tbz2 | tar -xvf - |
13 |
|
14 |
which starts, and then breaks after some time with the message: |
15 |
|
16 |
Out of Memory: Killed process 175 (sash) |
17 |
|
18 |
The box has 64 megs of RAM, the tarball is about 350megs in size. Weird |
19 |
enough, this also happens with the default-i686-20010524.tbz2 archive |
20 |
from ibiblio.org. |
21 |
|
22 |
|
23 |
The more time I spend with gentoo, and the more traffic I generate on |
24 |
the list, the more I want to have that thing up and running! =) |
25 |
|
26 |
|
27 |
Achim, Daniel -- and the rest of you all who answered too, thank you! --, |
28 |
I will get back to you because of the magazine article next week; I have |
29 |
loads of other work to do before I can dive into gentoo the way it |
30 |
deserves. |
