Reading the bug (506276), it seems to me it's all about /supporting/ |
32 |
symlink=no, discussing migration scripts to make it possible to migrate |
33 |
existing installations, etc, not /mandating/ it. |
34 |
|
35 |
I don't see anything suggesting that vapier, or anyone else for that |
36 |
matter, decided it was going to be the _only_ choice, just that it would |
37 |
eventually be _a_ choice. |
38 |
|
39 |
Much like x32 didn't replace x86 or mulitlib, but became another choice |
40 |
for those who wanted it. |
41 |
|
42 |
Thus the only thing suggesting it'll be mandatory remains the direct |
43 |
answer to my direct question above, asking about it. |
44 |
|
45 |
Meanwhile, I don't really disagree at this point, certainly not if much |
46 |
like usrmerge and (s)bin merge a gentooer is free to decide on their own, |
47 |
regardless of official support for it, but I'm wondering whether that |
48 |
will continue to be the case, or if the test (discussed in the bug) to |
49 |
die if the symlink remains when people are on the new profiles will |
50 |
effectively enforce it against an admin's will, even if that's not the |
51 |
intent. |
