Hi all,

I have come across a small problem using the gentoo live cd.
(livecd-basic-1.4_rc1-r2.iso). I am currently evaluating gentoo as an
alternative to Red Hat as our favoured distribution; so far I like what
I see although the portage system is a bit of an unknown at the moment
and the philosophy of the distribution is very different. However I
digress...

I came up with the idea of using the live cd to deploy an identical
system across a range of identical boxes from a tarball.

I edited the ISO using (please don't shoot me down) WinISO; which I have
used in the past to modify BBLCD's (Bernhards Bootable Linux CD Project)
to add the tarballs. It created a bootable iso at the end but when it
came to boot time it ran and immediately failed with the message:

~ > ISOLINUX 1.75 2002-06-14 isolinux: Image checksum error, sorry...
~ >
~ > Boot failed: press a key to retry...

Any attempt to press any key has no noticeable result though it may be
re-displaying the same screen.

Is this checksum a security feature to prevent the stage-1 tarball being
replaced by a compromised version? If it is then can it be changed to
reflect the new contents of the disc?

Is there a HOWTO on the subject of creating a livecd?

Keep up the excellent work!

Regards
