15 I know projects that need to work around static initialization not being
16 reliable - they only happen to have done that for other reasons (such as
17 Windows PE format, iirc) years before --as-needed was implemented for
18 binutils.
19 Standards is one thing - reality is something quite different.
20 The reality is that everything designed to work everywhere is just
21 mighty happy with --as-needed and lots of benefits to gain from it.
