I have spotted some odd behaviour, too. This one is funny:
emerg -pu --deep world says

[ebuild UD] app-cdr/cdrtools-1.11.33 [2.0]

now if i do emerge -u world --deep this it sais

[ebuild U ] app-cdr/cdrtools-2.0 [1.11.33]

afterwards and if i -u --deep world again it sais

[ebuild UD] app-cdr/cdrtools-1.11.33 [2.0]

again

you see where this leads ? <g>
im lucky i didnt write an automatic --deep update script as a cron job,
would be busy for a while >;>>>

is there a way to check which ebuild thinks that it needs the downgrade?
by the way -pu world without --deep doesnt find this.
