4 |
Hi everybody, |
5 |
|
6 |
The Gentoo vmware team have been developing new ebuilds for |
7 |
vmware-workstation, vmware-player and vmware-server (and |
8 |
vmware-server-console), to help ease the maintenance of the shared |
9 |
modules and shared patches between these products. Since they all have |
10 |
a similar shared installer, and many use the same modules, it was a felt |
11 |
eclasses would be the best system for reducing the shared code between them. |
12 |
|
13 |
The first eclass is for installing the video and network modules that |
14 |
most vmware products use, but should also be able to deploy the modules |
15 |
used in a guest vmware, for the various tools packages. |
16 |
|
17 |
The second eclass if for installing the products themselves, which all |
18 |
tend to follow a similar install process, putting the files in similar |
19 |
locations, and maintaining a pseudo-installation-database used by the |
20 |
vmware configuration and init scripts. |
21 |
|
22 |
So, please take a look through the following proposed eclasses: |
23 |

25 |
http://overlays.gentoo.org/svn/proj/vmware/trunk/eclass/vmware.eclass |
26 |
|
27 |
and feel free to post any comments, questions or suggestions relating to |
28 |
them so that we can get them fixed up and put in the tree. Once that |
29 |
happens we'll being migrating over the packages from the overlay to the |
30 |
main tree, and we'll be halfway towards having easily maintained and |
31 |
mess free vmware installations for all! 5:) |
32 |
|
33 |
Thanks very much! |
34 |
Mike 5:) |
