Subject: [gentoo-dev] loopback mount locks

I recently upgraded and recompiled my system against gcc3.2 and the newer
glibc. I had a few hiccoughs (fwbuilder won't compile at all against the
newer gcc, etc), but my main problem deals with loopback support.

I use the encrypted loopback support supplied in the kernel crypto-sources
package, and specificly, I use the aes cipher. However, when I attempt to
mount a looback device - I get a general protection fault, which is
something I've never seen before (in linux). It zombies the mount process
and seems to lock up the pty.

So at the moment, I'm locked out of most of my critical files, but I have a
backup of the partitions in question - so It's just a matter of regaining
access to them.

My fstab entry for this partition looks like:

/dev/hda4 /home/cmauch/safe ext2
defaults,users,noauto,loop=/dev/loop0,encryption=aes,keybits=128 0 0

The error I'm seeing is as follows.

general protection fault: 0000
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010:[<c1023955>] Tainted:P

When I attempt to mount my encrypted zip diskettes, I get a similar error.
If anybody here can point me in the right direction to getting this fixed,
even if it's only an email address of someone who can help - I'd would
really appreciate it.

BTW: Other than this problem, I've not had any other problems - and the
response of the entire system feels much snappier. Cool stuff ;)

Thanks and take it easy,

It's is not, it isn't ain't, and it's it's, not its, if you mean it
is. If you don't, it's its. Then too, it's hers. It isn't her's. It
isn't our's either. It's ours, and likewise yours and theirs.
