7 Oh, I'm sorry, I thought you were referring to the kernel in terms of
8 ebuild dependencies. Isn't your reason why "emerge --info" lists the
9 kernel? (Also, the kernel probably isn't the best example, since I
10 suspect that if there's any single package that people are likely to
11 install outside of portage, the kernel would be it.)
