8 Yes, you must use "redhat-sources". Redhat patched their sources so that NPTL
9 would work on a 2.4 kernel.

11 Personally, I would find out what is causing your system to freeze and try to
12 continue to use the 2.6 kernel as it offers more features and greater speed.
