I propose creating a new category, sci-visualization, to house scientific |
2 |
visualization applications. There are at least 17 applications I have |
3 |
identified which are already in the tree that could be moved. Many of them |
4 |
are in media-gfx with photo applications etc. They are all taken care of by |
5 |
the scientific application herd. |
6 |
|
7 |
The category is kept intentionally broad to include applications such as |
8 |
grace, qtiplot and gnuplot which visualise 2/3D data, gwyddion and gxsm which |
9 |
visualise SPM data. There are some data mining applications (getting data |
10 |
points from published graphs) that would fit in here quite nicely too. This |
11 |
has already been discussed on the gentoo-science list and I put it to the |
12 |
wider Gentoo community before adding the new category and moving any ebuilds. |

Thanks, |
