3 Even though you don't get errors, you seem to have a corruption of some kind.

5 1. you have overheating/clocked hardware which then stresses during cpu
6 operations like this.
7 2. You haven't checked your ext3 partition in a while, boot in single user
8 mode and do a thorough fscheck.
9 3. You might have done too many optimisations on your hdd (using hdparm)
10 4. You might have a hardware corruption, which could be difficult to tackle. I
11 would just in case check the memory (memtest) and maybe the harddrive if you
12 can.
