Hi,

First, I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum to address
this question, but it's the only gentoo list that I'm currently aware
of. I also don't think what I'm encountering is a bug, but probably
some other issue.

I have been exploring Gentoo off and on since early 2000. The latest
edition looked very, very appealing to me and I decided to go for it.

After following the installation directions (very straightforward), and
getting to the bootstrap stage:

# scripts/bootstrap.sh

The script does it's thing (note that I configured /etc/make.conf),
and at about 72% (just past 5750K) of what I believe is a download
process from ibiblio, I get message (after a pause or timeout of
several minutes):

!!! binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3.tar.bz2: message digests do not match!
!!! binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3.tar.bz2 is corrupt or incomplete
>>> md5 con (checksum numbers here, etc, etc)
>>> md5 now (different checksum numbers here, etc, obviously no match)
>>> Please delete/redownload
>>> /usr/portage/distfiles/binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3.tar.bz2

!!! emerge aborting on
/usr/portage/sys-devel/binutils/binutils-2.11.92.0.12.3-r1.ebuild

(none) portage #

I'm probably out of my league here, but could someone point me to
information on how to point/configure emerge to use a different
source other than ibiblio? That might not be the problem, but it's
the last variable I haven't changed.

And if this was the wrong place to raise this almost newbish issue,
sorry.
