Hmm, you've been to quick, we uploaded a new snapshot today with alot of
fixes. 
Check /usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes for ppp. There are a few
aliases
required.
Do not use glibc-2.2.2-r1 on rc4_pre2 it will messup alot of stuff.
best whould be you download the latest sys snapshot and make a fresh
install. The package format has changed so the ones from gentoo-update
do not work. 
For xfree check /etc/env.d there must be a file called 90xfree or so.
If not grab it via cvs-web from the files subdir in x11-base/xfree.
Run env-update and login again or source /etc/profile. After that
/usr/X11R6/bin must be in your PATH (say echo $PATH to check that).
we have no app templates for /etc/skel at the moment, that's why it is
empty.
But the best whould be you grab sys-i686-20010421.tbz2 and use this one,
because lot of things have changed.
