I am using tetex-3 on my amd64 system, I haven't had any problems with it so
far in what I do. I will certainly test the new version and put it through
its paces as I write up my thesis!

I will try to find some time to test that out as I get chance on amd64.

If I can find time I may well be able to help you out a little with that. It
is looking good already. I write my presentations in LaTeX beamer, and use
Kile as an editor. Although I have also converted people to the ways of LaTeX
using the easy entry LyX affords you ;)
